Alan - Dennis's Story

Geeze... I spent hours working on this thing years ago¿ I guess "Classmates" erases it if your account goes dormant. I'll do it again, but will try to use less space/words. In the original, I sent regards to all my high school friends. I have so many good memories of high school and there is no way I can include everyone's name, so if you get left out of this, know that you are in my head and heart. Ever seen television's "That 70's Show"? Reminds me a lot of life on Haven Crest Drive in East Brainerd where I grew up. We spent a lot of time in the basements of our houses. The ubiquitous Avocado or Harvest Gold matching washer and dryer in the background. The likelihood of finding an illegal substance being passed around or someone cracking the top off their dad's beer was higher in the summer when school was out or on the weekend. But you could count on it happening. Mike Wilhoite had a cool basement. John Wallace's house was the best 'cause it had a pool AND a basement. The Wallace's were (still are) the best folks -it was like the Cleaver house. I probably came across like a watered-down Eddie Haskel. Randy LaGasse was a great guy to hang out with and they were always loading the kids in the car for a trip to HOLIDAY BOWLING LANES on Brainerd Road. Ahhh, I remember my first Pina Colada. Mrs. LaGasse treated... she winked at the bartender and told him to leave the alcohol out (I did not know that until later.) Those Murphy boys... Tim Lewis... Mark McFalls... Trish Rivers and her brothers. Trish Rivers was our DONNA from the '70 Show. She was "the" girl. We only had one, so she was the center of attention. There were several guys that lived on our street; Trish was the only girl that was our age. So, when you needed advice, you asked her. I remember the summer she and her family went on vacation. It was kinda like when you took a roll of film to the Drive-thru 2-day photo processing stand. When she came back, she had developed, so to speak. She was absolutely beautiful. I remember when our senior prom rolled around, neither of us had a date. Somehow it worked out that we went together. She wore a peach colored dress that looked great on her. (I FOUND THE PICTURES AND WILL BE BRINGING THEM TO THE 25 REUNION --SEPT. 2008!!) She was a gracious girl with a beautiful smile and so much fun to hang around with. Drama Club, Football and Track kept me busy in school. I played Football 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th grades and I ran track 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. Some team mates: Marvin Rhinhart, Danny Gray, Steve Morgan, Roddy Fitzgerald, Mark Stack, Sam Huff, Cari Miller, the Ford Brothers, Mike Wilhoite, brother Larry Rowe, Jimmy Favors, Sanford Balou (rest his soul) Doug Lawhorn, John Massey and all the others (too many to name) WHERE THE HELL IS DANNY GRAY?? When we graduated a bunch of went to Florida. I remember one day in Florida, it was raining cats and dogs. "Morris" cats and dogs. Morris Hilton-cats in particular. It was raining so hard about nine of us had gathered in a hotel room that four of the girls had rented. Because it was raining, we piled up in their room to stay dry and DRINK. We were just sitting around laughing, drinking and having a good time. Morris was having such a good time, he not only offered to pull out his privates and show them... HE DID pull it out and show! Sorry, Morris... maybe I shoulda left this part out... (I was going to try to ERASE this but my backspace button quit working about three years ago.) ... In 1983 I started ...Expand for more
working for Sonitrol Security in Chattanooga. FF (fast forward) 1990 Moved to Atlanta. Still with Sonitrol Security. In 1993, met my partner Michael Turner. He is my best friend and we have been together for 14 years now. (this will be the third class reunion we have been to together. So, some of you already know him) SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL OF YOU for your kind words and your ability to not allow my sexuality; lifestyle (or whatever YOU call it) to interfere with our friendship and ability to communicate. Unless you are living under a rock, this is 2008, surely, you know someone that is GAY. FF (25 years later) still with Sonitrol... REUNION TIME We are living in Hogansville, GA, about an hour south of Atlanta, down the I-85 corridor. I recently found out that Mark Cody class of '83 and Mellissa Killian class of '83 both live/ed within minutes of me. I can't find either one, now. I commute 72 miles each way to the office everyday (to Tucker, GA) near Northlake Mall (285 at Northlake and LaVista Road) If you are in the area, call me for lunch! Three years ago we moved from Morrow/Jonesboro GA and built a house in Hogansville. We have a little land, 4 Dogs, 7 Cats, Un-known Quantity of Fish in Pond (I swear, I pulled one out that was over THREE FEET LONG) 5 Ducks, Several Chickens, 8 Goats, 2 Cows (I think that¿s all). Mike just started back to school, he wants to be a vet. We have plenty of animals here for him to practice on. He suffers from a bone disease called Avascular Necrosis or AVN (look it up on the internet. I don't have enough room here to explaining it all). Four years ago, at the age of 31 he had both hips replaced (insert your own joke here!) He recently had both knees replaced (insert more jokes here). He is healing up and spends time and energy feeding all animals and keeping up with school work. ME ME ME ME!!!!! Okay... after 25 years of the same thing; I decided to do something different. I always wanted to be a cop. So, after all the background checks were completed, I was accepted to the Clayton County Regional Law Enforcement Academy! Class started in May of 08 and runs through November. Night classes, three nights a week. Once completed, I may leave my bread and butter job and trade-in for a Crown Vic or a Dodge Charger! ...whatever standard issue is. In preparation for the Academy, I dropped 50 pounds and stopped drinking. I have not had a beer in a year (life is dull without BEER!!) I stopped eating junk and started working out. After I graduate in November we are planning another trip. (gotta get it in before the salary decrease!!) . We have been to Europe and Belize several times and on four or five cruises. We are planning one more cruise for Dec. 14 and look forward to it! UPDATE Nov 19, 2008. We nixed the trip this year, going to wait till spring 2009. I graduated from the Police Academy on November 12. It was a rush! My mom attended and said that she has not seen me look so excited since I was a kid ¿back when I believed in Santa (WHAT? THERE¿S NO SANTA!!!????) My application is under review at a local agency and I look forward to working with them and serving the community. Well, that¿s all for now... Sorry for the long read. Tell me what you have been up to! I look forward to hearing from you!
